JAMESON'S BETTER TIME

(From "Vedette.") '--. y SYDNEY, December 18. J. T. Jamieson continued his winning way at Rosebery on Wednesday with two winners, Bertha B. and Latharna. Contrary to the usual custom, they drifted in the betting and. finished at long odds. Some tall stories were circulated after" the meeting that both had been supported at starting price for small fortunes.. but in effect the gain was very small. ■ Bertha 8., a three-year-old Siegfried —Gay. Salute filly, was having her first race in, a six and three-quarter-furlong maiden handicap. She walked off the mark and was a long way out of her ground- until the turn. From that point Bartle rode her hard and at the end she won cleverly. • As she had been sluggish in her track gallops her ability came rather as a surprise.. •■■ Latharna had had two runs and raced badly before Wednesday. 'He1 had put little heart into his work, so Bartle was permitted to ride him his way. He kept the Limond gelding] up to the job from the start, and towards the post, when his mount tried to give up, he got to work on him with a vengeance. Latharna just won, but he might now be a better horse in a race. „:

Bertha B. defeated another New Zealand-bred three-year-old in The Palmist in her race, and the Night Raid gelding Hands Up was close behind Latharna' in fifth place. The Limond—Mislaid filly Retrieved went down to the consistent Falstaff in the Flying Handicap. Retrieved, who has improved a good deal in appearance, tried to win all the way but Falstaff finished too well. Falstaff has some good form to his credit, so RetrieyeoYs form was most promising. (N.B.,'Retrieved has since been successful.—"Rangatira.")

W. Cook had an exasperating experience at Rosebery. He had omitted to obtain his clearance papers from Melbourne at the end of his month's suspension. He had four rides and three of them were winners, Kiaora, Sleepmond, and Katydid.
