NELSON NEWS

(From "The Post's" Representative.) NELSON, December 23.

The Towhswomen's Guild held a Christmas party recently, which was much appreciated and enjoyed by all members. The Marsden Library was prettily decorated, and the programme varied. Items were ■ given by the musical and play-reading circles, and afternoon tea brought to a close a very happy time, and the last meeting of the year. The guild "was only formed about two years ago, and today its membership numbers over 400. It is very much alive and has proved that a movement of this kind was much needed.

Tea and sherry parties are the order of the day, and there is a delightful Christmas gaiety in the air.

A large morning tea party was given last Saturday by Mrs. C. B. Hodgson, Ngatiama Street, for Miss Janet Atkinson, Wellington, who recently returned from England.

Another enjoyable morning party was given a few days ago by Mrs. R. H. Davies at her home on the Port Hills, when the sheltered verandah gave the necessary shade, while affording the guests an uninterrupted view of the sparkling bay.

Mrs. Edwin Harris had several friends to tea one morning this week, who were delighted to welcome her back to Nelson .after an absence of many months. Her daughter, Mrs. George Webber, with her small daughter, is spending the holidays- with her parents.

Small sherry parties were recently given by Mrs. Frank Hudson and Mrs. H. S. Robison in honour of Mrs. W. Hudson, who has left for Australia. Another delightful party was given in the cool of the evening by Mrs. A. C. Leggatt.

A very large and most enjoyable morning tea was given last Thursday by Mrs. T. H. Easterfleld. Tea was served in three rooms and the hall, and there was much pleasant conversation and laughter.
