The accused is lan Gordon Cowan, a cashier, aged 17, and, he was charged before Mr. W. 'F. Stilwell, S.M., with the attempted murder of John McMillan, aged 79.

Detective-Sergeant E. C. Jarrold, who prosecuted, asked for a remand until January 2. The arrest, he said, had been made yesterday afternoon by Detectives W. McLennan and W. Ritchie. The victim was to undergo an operation this morning for the removal of the bullet. In these circumstances he did not recommend that the accused should be allowed his liberty. The remand was granted.

The injured man was taken from 47 Roy Street, where the shooting is alleged to have occurred, to the hospital of the Little Company of Mary by the Free Ambulance at 3.45 p.m. yesterday.
