P. AND T. STORES MANAGER

Mr, F. Wilton, stores manager, Post and Telegraph Department, is commencing leave shortly prior to retirement on superannuation. . Mr. Wilton joined the. Department as a'message boy at Wellington in 1895 and, has served in this city continuously. His-experience covers the postal and savings bank branches, head office, accounts, and stores branch, ' and he has occupied his present position for a period of ten years. . During the same term ;he has, been the. Department's representative on the Government Stores Control Board's advisory committee,, of which he has been chairman since 1932. He has also been a member of .the council of the New Zealand Standards Institute since its inauguration.: Outside of official hours Mr. Wilton has taken a keen interest in swimming and athletics, competing at New Zealand, championship meetings in both sports,' and he was a well-known competitor both on the track and across country. He was, for several years a. member of the council of the N.Z.A.A.A. and for ; a long period sat on the executive committee of the local centre of the N.Z.A.S.A. He was a foundation scholar of the recently demolished Clyde Quay School and is president of the ex-pupils' association. During the past few years Mr. Wilton has found his principal outdoor recreation on the Kelburn Bowling Club's green. .
