BRITISH BOWLERS

The International Bowling Board's British team left Southampton recently for Cape Town. There are 25 players and 11 women in the party, and the expenses of the tour, amounting -to over £7000, are being paid by the players themselves. This is the third official bowling team to visit South Africa and Rhodesia, and a stay of 13 ■weeks will be made, matches being played at Kimberley, Bulawayo, Durban1, Maritzburg, Bloemfontein, Johannesburg, Salisbury, Harrismith, Bethlehem, Newcastle, Pretoria, Kroonstad, Queenstown, East London, Port Elizabeth, and Cape Town. Mr. George Wright, president of the English Bowling Association in 1925 and an English international, is captain of the team, his vice-captains being F. G. Newton, Wales, A. Brown," Ireland, and A. Malcolm, Scotland; It will be, recalled (says "Kiwi")'that Mr. George Wright was president of the British team- which, toured Australia and New Zealand in. 1925-26, and that some members of the party took part in the Dominion annual tournament held at Dunedin in its exhibition year. The Homelanders comprised 20 Scottish, 13 English, four Irish, and three Welsh bowlers. The team played 41 major matches, won 22, lost 17, and drew 2. ' The fact that a> British^ team, has gone to South Africa has ■■more than a passing interest to New Zealand

bowlers, as it may. possibly mean that a team will not; be sentrfrom the Old Country to tour New. Zealand and Australia in 1937-38, a return visit which has long been promised. : What effect also the ■ South African, tour will have on the International Bowling, Board's representation at the Empire Games at Sydney in February, 1938, remains to be seen. . • ■ .■; ■,
