PARCEL POST RATES

REDUCTION APPRECIATED

(By Telegraph—Prei*. Association.) DUNEDIN, November 30. The Postmaster-General (the Hon. F. Jones) referred today to the notable effect of the introduction in the Post and Telegraph Department of the new and simplified cheap rates for parcel post traffic. This new system came .into effect in March last. That the cheaper rates have met with the aproval of. the public is exemplified by the great increase in the number of parcels 'posted since the new rates have been in operation in comparison with the business done prior to the innovation. As an example, the Minister' stated that over a recent period of four weeks some 137,000 parcels were posted at the four centres. During the corresponding period last year the total was some 66,000. The increase so far as the four centres are concerned is thus over 100 per cent.
