ATTACK ON COMMUNISM

Herr yon Ribberitrop, the new Gei> man Ambassador, made an attack on Communism within a few minutes or his arrival in London recently. Immediately the reception preliminaries were over he said to the Press representatives:—"l think there is a lot of. work to be done in the interest ol the two countries. Germany wants the friendship of Great Britain, and I think the English people want the Germans' friendship. The Fuhrer is convinced that the only real danger for Europe and the British Empire as well is the spreading further of Communism—the most terrible of all diseases —terrible because people generally only seem to realise it is a real danger when it is too late. Closer collaboration between our two countries in this sense is not only important but, in my opinion, is a vital necessity in our common struggle for the upholding of our civilisation and cultures. The way in which Anglo-German friendship will be brought about may be somewhat longer than, let us say, some optimists wish for. but I am convinced it will come, and, as far as I am concerned, I am willing to do everything I can to help."
