I Special forecast for Wellington:— : Light to moderate .easterly to I south-easterly winds, freshening: , somewhat later. Weather dull and misty with inter- - mittent rain. The:general forecast for the Dominion issued at noon today is for light to fresh northerly winds to the north of Cape Egmont and Tauranga, with a change later to westerlies or westerlies. Elsewhere winds ,■ will be variable in direction, with light to moderate south-easterlies to. north-east-erlies predominating. The •.weather will still be cloudy to overcast, with mist or fog in many, places. Showers or drizzling rain are probable in most districts, and will be fairly general. Some heavy falls are likely in the North Island, but the rain will be lighter and. more scattered in'southern districts. There has been but little change since yesterday in the meteorological situation. An anticyclone remains centred to the east of the South Island, with a shallow depression lying to the west of the Dominion, while a rather intense anticyclone covers eastern Australia and the western part of 'the Tasman~Sea. Winds have been light to moderate in force and rather variable in direction, with northerlies or easterlies predominating, but about Cook Strait the wind direction has been mainly south-easterly. The weather has been mostly fair in the southern portion of the South Island; but otherwise dull conditions have prevailed, with considerable mist or fog in places. Since last night rain has fallen in most districts, and in the Cook Strait area there have been some rather heavy fails. Wanganui reports a:fall of 83 points, Farewell Spit one of 44 points, and Nelson one of 24 points. Similar conditions were general this morning, a northerly wind having freshened north of Auckland. Auckland's weather yesterday was dull, a northerly- to north-easterly wind having freshened by this morning. Some light rain fell there last night, and this morning's weather was cloudy. .•"■'■ ':',..'. In Wellington, except for a brief interval of sunshine about noon, the weather.was dull and misty with a light southerly wind, and only 1.4 hours of b_right sunshine were recorded. Rain fell last night, nine points being recorded up to 9.30 a.m. today. Christchurch also has had dull and misty weather, the wind there having been a fresh easterly. It has been raining since early this morning, 16 points being recorded up to 9 a; a., at which hour there was no wind. Dunedin's weather has been overcast and misty with a north-easterly breeze. At 9 a.m. today it was calm and cloudy.
