EX-SERVICEMEN
SUCCESSFUL AFTERNOON
The annual ex-servicemen's golf afternoon, which has always been so successful in the past, was held yesterday at Miramar and repeated the success of previous occasions. , The championship was won by •• the secretary, Mr. P. D. Daniell, with a good 78. The runner-up was J. Sandham. The best net score was returned by W. G. Hulston, who turned in a 70, and he also took the trophy for1 the best bogey score, 2 up. The teams' match was won by the Navy, with a score of 297. The winner of the trophy for the highest gross score was D. G. B. Morison. Colonel C. H. Weston, who represented the Returned.Soldiers' Association, apologised. at the prize-giving for the absence of Colonel Cowles, who was unable to be present. He congratulated the winners, and said that in future only bona fide members of the Returned Soldiers' Association would be allowed to compete. The returned soldier, he said, was.in a worse posi-tion-today than he had been.in for many years. He felt sure that players would not grudge a few shillings a year to help the returned soldiers.
