BLAZING PETROL
WOMAN'S EXPERIENCE
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
NELSON, October 22.
While washing; curtains in a basin containing a gallon of benzine, Mrs. J. L. Harris, Ngatitama Street, had an unenviable experience when the petrol and the' curtains mysteriously caught fire. , , . ■ \
As the curtains were being rubbed in the benzine, Mrs. Harris heard a fairly loud roar. She thought it was a rumble preceding an earthquake, but then saw that the basin and curtains were on fire, flames and smoke filling the scullery. She hurriedly left the room to obtain a stick, with which she pulled the blazing basin outside. The flames were ten^ feet in height.
How the benzine caught fire is a mystery, as there was no naked flame in the vicinity. ..
