GALLOP BY GALLIO

An unscheduled item at the opening of the Wellington Spring Meeting yesterday was a gallop by Gallio on the course proper after the last race had been concluded. Gallio was not engaged yesterday, but he is to race on the two final days of the meeting and is then booked to go, south for the New Zealand Derby. Gallio, with L. J. Ellis in the saddle and carrying Elanage's colours, was first paraded in the birdcage for five minutes. On leaving the enclosure he cantered round to the six furlongs and came home from there, running the distance on the rail in lmin 15 2-ssec, the last half-mile in 50sec. It was a good gallop without being impressive, but it will undoubtedly do him a lot of good, as he was blowing hard when he. returned from the track and he was still blowing ten minutes later when walking round in the saddling paddock.
