CUP NOT WANTED

SPEED ON ATLANTIC

ATTITUDE OF QUEEN MARY'S

OWNERS

LONDON, October 20,

The Cunard-White Star Company announces that though the Queen Mary won the Blue Riband of the Atlantic the company does not want the Hales Cup which goes with it. "If the cup is offered to the company it would feel obliged to refuse it," it states. The "Daily" Herald" says it is known that Sir Percy Bates, chairman of the company, holds the view that a trophy set up for international competition introduces an undesirable element into the operation of ocean steamship services.
