ROME, October 20,
Hundreds of Abyssinians are reported to have been killed in the most serious battle since the occupation of Addis Ababa. The Italians claim a complete victory, giving them access to the fertile western province of Sidamo. Troops and artillery from Addis Ababa encountered the Abyssinians near Giavassere, and after a heavy bombardment the Italians, aided by aeroplanes, charged the Abyssinians,. who were 'routed after six hours' fighting.
It is reported that the Government does not intend to give any information about the Italo-Abyssinian war in the future. The war is considered over and incidents from now on will be classified as police action.
A Jibuti cable published yesterday stated that, the rainy season being over, the Italians arc starting a campaign to complete the subjugation of Abyssinia. At present they are repairing the Addis Ababa-Jibuti railway, which the Abyssinians cut .recently in several places.
