ATTITUDE IN DUNEDIISf
(By. Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evening Post.")!
DUNEDIN, This Day. Jit the assurances of the Mayors of Dunedin and St. Kilda are carried out to the letter, when flags are waved next May as- part of Dunedin's commemoration of the Coronation of King Edward, none of .the bunting used by the bodies they represent will be of Japanese manufacture. ■ "As far as the City Council is concerned it will-not the-use of Japanese bunting, but if any has been sent to Dunedin there is nqthing .to prevent individuals displaying. it, unpatriotic though it might be," said the Rev. E. T. Cox,1 Mayor of Dunedin. "It would be deplorable if anything but British were. used during this unique event." - • , • Mr. J. J. Marlow, Mayor of St. Kilda, said he was positive that his oCuncil would not purchase flags of Japanese manufacture. • however cheap they might be, and he appealed to 'the. general public not to display this copy of the Union Jack. '•'•■ ' ■ . -■ Already local firms are preparing for the celebrations by laying in a large stock of bunting, all of it manufactured in England. For patriotic reasons they will not consider the Japanese article though it is 25 per cent, cheaper. A firm of saihnakers has received samples of foreign bunting, but refuses to negotiate for any purchases. i
