FAMOUS PAINTER
TO VISIT NEW ZEALAND
A famous Academician, Mr. S. J. Lamorna Birch, is lo visit ■ New Zealand. Accompanied by 'his wife, he left, England on the Rangitata a few days ago, and is due to arrive in Auckland on November .18. Besides being entitled to place the letters R.A. after his name, Mr. Lamorna Birch is also a member of the Royal Water Colour Society. New Zealand's National Gallery,]js fortunate in possessing examples of his work, and several have been on exhibition lately in the various loan collections: It is fishing, however,' which has been the main incentive in bringing the artist to these shores. Mr. Lamorna Birch is a very keen disciple of Isaak Walton, and New Zealand's reputation as a paradise for .fishermen has induced him to make the trip. But it is highly probable that while he is in the country he will not entirely forsake his art, for which he has "achieved' such a world-wide reputation, and it will be distinctly interesting -to see what a painter with a new outlook such as his makes of the Dominion's scenery.
