ADEPT BIG HORSE

The belief that a big horse cannot negotiate a small track is false, because many horses over 16 hands have done well on small tracks. Perhaps the greatest horse in that respect seen in this country was Prince Derby, who was >17 hands high, says the StarHe won five races on end on a three and a half furlongs track at Perth before he was sent to Christchurch. Prince Derby was a clever horse round bends; in fact, it was said that he could pace as fast around bends as he could in a straight.
