COROWA SHAPING BETTER

(Special from "Limited.")

HAWERA, October 20. Track and weather conditions have lately been ideal for training operations at Hawera. The course proper was used at the weekend for. galloping, the pegs being out 12 feet from the rails. . . ' ~ Corowa and Master Limond both showed -better track form by galloping six furlongs in lmin 20 l-ssec. They finished together and were both going strongly. Silvanus was responsible for,the best comparative effort of the morning-by easily defeating Golden ;RiU overi five furlongs'traversed in lmin ssec, Silvanus finished well after going; evenly throughout. Beau Star showed his old dash by galloping half a mile in 52Jsec, working soundly. He is to start at Waverley and'W. Grindlay is to ride him in the hurdle race.. ■

. Lickem began better than Fairy Dale at the three. furlongs and beat her home by two lengths in 37 3-ssec.' The Lysander youngster Narrator showed plenty of dash in a two-furlong sprint, finishing a length in front of Le MarSuise, who was' well clear of Gold ■lare. Narrator's time was 24£ sec, and the best shown to date by any of the local' two-year-olds. With no other horses galloping on the plough there was little with which to compare the effort' of , Lowenberg and Friesland over five furlongs, compassed in lriun 6sec. The pair finished together. The plough track has beein recently done up and was not fast. Lowenberg appears to improve with each gallop. Lowenberg's half-sister Trim is coming on - nicely and sprinted a couple of furlongs with Fair Day in 26Jsec without being bustled. : Driven into his fences, the hurdler Callamart (Kowhai), after nearly unseating his rider at the second fence, finished well ahead of Mint Tour at the end of a round of the schooling fences run at hurdle-racing pace. ' Kia Ora was given half-pace exercise. S. Anderson has been engaged to.ride Kia Ora and Advance Plane! in their Waverley engagements. G. Duncan, if he can make the weight, will ride Corowa at Trentham.
