VICTIMS OF "RAG"
GAGGED AND BOUND
"SLEEPERS" IN STREET
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.
Securely tied to their beds, taken into Rolleston Avenue, and left there for more than two hours till the police set them free,*two Canterbury College students played the leading roles in a "rag" last Sunday morning.
Early in the morning the two victims were roughly roused from sleep by a number of students. Each was wrapped firmly in a sheet and. a blanket, and then bound round and round with yards of rope. They were placed in natural positions on their respective beds, neatly covered over and tucked in, and then removed'to the avenue. They could not move, and much less could they cry out, for they had, been gagged. ■ — *
They made their public debut just after 9 o'clock just in front of the Rplleston statue, in full view of pedestrian and other traffic on the avenue. Early passers-by commented on the eccentricities of students who wished to sleep in the open air, but apart from that there was nothing unusual about the appearance of the "sleepers." By 11.30, however, the game was up. A constable arrived and delighted the watching students by trying to rouse the trussed-up students by' shaking them. Then he whisked off the covering blankets and found why they did not move.
It is - understood 'that no further action will be taken, the police, according to a statement by an officer, regarding the affair as trivial, and. Just a piece of studenfrnonsense,- V
