CROWN JEWELS STOLEN

LISBON TREASURES

IN BROAD DAYLIGHT «

LISBON, October 18, Under the eyes of guards and many visitors, thieves stole a historic golden crown and valuable crown jewels from the Pantheon in broad daylight. A guard recalls the entry of two men and three women. The latter prayed for a prolonged period at the tombs of King Carlos and the Crown Prince Louis Phillipe. The theft was not noticed before closing, when it was discovered-that the reliquary had been forced and rifled.
