PLEA FOR HULKEANA

(To the Editor.) *

Sir,—Almost immediately, 1 am informed, a commencement will be made to pull down the wooden portion of the Parliament Buildings, and most probably this will involve the destruction of the bed of Hulkeana that is just now flaunting its glorious bloom between the path and the wall of the old wooden building. Cannot this portion of the building be left until the flowers of Hulkeana have faded? This native of Marlborough is considered by many people to be one of the most beautiful of the many veronicas that thrive in New Zealand; the beautiful bed in Parliament House grounds is the most luxuriant in the Dominion, and certainly should be protected during rebuilding operations.—l am, etc., PASSER-BY.
