Special forecast for Wellington:— Moderate to strong: north-westerly winds, reaching gale force at times. Weather mild, changeable, and

squally, with rain at times.

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today, is. for north-easterly winds at first over the northern half of the North Island. Elsewhere winds will be northerly to north-westerly in direction, backing later to the west or in some places to the south-west. Winds will be moderate to strong generally, gale force still being reached in places about, and to the south of Cook Strait. The weather will be unsettled and rain is probable in most districts, but-more especially in those with ~ westerly aspect. Temperatures will be mild to warm, but will be becoming cooler during tomorrow.

The first of a new series of westerly depressions is crossing the Dominion today, while a shallow depression continues to lie to the north of New Zealand. Winds have been moderate to strong generally, with gales in places about and to the south of Cook Strait. In the northern half of the North Island north-easterlies ■ have predominated, and nbrtherlies or north-wester-lies elsewhere. The weather has been dull and 'misty in the northern and north-eastern portions of the North Island, with further scattered_ rain, but elsewhere it was mostly fair to fine yesterday. Since last evening, however, rain has fallen in the western and southern portions of the South Island and in the Cook Strait area, while in Westland there have been some heavy, falls, Okuru, for instance, reporting 181 points of rain. Mild to warm temperatures have prevailed.

A north-easterly breeze prevailed in Auckland yesterday, the morning being dull and the^ afternoon clear. The weather at 9 a.i*. today was fair with a breeze from the east-south-east.

Wellington had a fine, mild, and pleasant day, with a moderate to fresh north-westerly wind. The sky gradually clouded over in the afternoon, but the total amount of bright sunshine for the day was 8.7 hours. Since 2.30 a.m. today misty rain has fallen at times, five points being recorded at Kelburn up to 9.30 a.m. Christchurch had a warm and for the most part cloudy day, with a northwesterly breeze. The maximum temperature was 71 degrees. At 9 a.m. today it was overcast with a breeze from the east-north-east.

Dunedin's weather was also dull but warm, a fresh northerly to northwesterly wind becoming strong in the evening. At 9 a.m. today it was fair with a light north-westerly wind.
