There were free fights on various parts of the moor, but a large contingent of police was on duty. Men fought among themselves and many, of the crowd received minor injuries, being unable to get out of the way. Stones had been thrown earlier at Fascists standing in a ring round the platform to keep the crowd back. Then someone swung a stick and struck one of the Fascists, and almost immediately a melee broke out. When the trouble started women became alarmed and tried to run to safety. Many were knocked down and trampled upon in a-general-stampede. Twelve people were' treated at tha General Infirmary,, one ibeing reported to be in a serious condition with abdominal injuries. A number of arrests were made while Sir Oswald was speaking and during the scenes which followed.
