ANNIVERSARY PARTY

The first anniversary of'the'" formation of the Belmont branch of the New Zealand Labour Party was heid recently at .the. men's club hall.. It was a highly successful function. The New Zealand Labour Party was represented by the president, the Rev. Clyde Carr, M.P., and the Otaki Labour Party Committee by Mr. Scott Ramsay (chairman) and' Mr. Shearer (secretary). An enjoyable programme, interspersed with dances, was presented by Misses Alsop and Dixon, and Messrs. Evans, Fordie, and Payne. Especially appreciated were the eccentric and acrobatic dances given by Miss Heather Wright. , Music for the dancing was contributed by Messrs. Tulloch, Cooper, and others. Two surprise humorous elocutionary items by Mr. Clyde Carr added to the enjoyment of the programme. After supper the birthday cake, decorated with one red candle and a kewpie dressed in the Labour Party's colours, was cut by Mr. Carr. Flowers were presented to Mrs. Scott Ramsay, Mrs. Shearer, and Mrs. Olivers. The arrangements for the party were ably carried out by Mesdames Cathro and Bennett, and Messrs. Alsop and McKay.
