PETONE CLUB

The Petone Rifle Club fired a further competition counting for 'the Longfield aggregate and first series at Trentham on Saturday, the range for the day being 600 yards. There was a good attendance of members, forty being present, and it is apparent even at this early stage that rivalry for the various competitions will be very keen. The 600 yards distance is considered to be one of the most difficult to fire over, and despite the fact that the weather conditions were beautifully fine, with occasional passing clouds casting a shadow over the tar-, gets, there were very few good double scores recorded. A varying breeze from the right took a lot of watching, and proved very deceptive.

The club standard for the 600 yards, is 45, and this total was equalled or bettered on no fewer than fifteen oc-i casions. There were also seven scores, of 44. The outstanding range scores were registered by D. E. Cameron, a new member, who scored 48 in his. second shoot, his third and sixth shots being fours. W. H. Ballinger and O, Pedersen made a 47 and a 46 each (a good double shoot), W. M. Jackson and A. H. O'Donnell 47 each, R. H. Nicholl, J. Devine, R. McKendry, and R. C, Barkle 46 each, and there were three other scores of 45 each. The outstand-. ing totals were made by W. H. Ballin-i ger and 0./Pedersen 93 each, D. J3, Cameron 92, and R. H. Nicholl 90. A number of the new members again performed very creditably. The shooting next Saturday will.be for the same competition, and the range will be 800 yards.
