LEPER MISSION SISTERS

LITTLE GIRLS' UNIQUE GIFT

A very large number of people assembled at the Novitiate and Rest House of the Sisters of the Leper Mission, Aurora Terrace, on Saturday afternoon for the "gift tea" organised in aid of the Leper Mission Sisters appeal. The weather was glorious, and the grounds set in native bush made an ideal spot for the function.

The Rev. Father Hurley (provincial of the Marist Order) gave a most interesting talk on this special mission, and Sister M. Benedict, who has been invalided home from Makogai, gave interesting details of the work on the island.

A musical programme, arranged by Mr. J. Boyce, was presented. Items by St. Vincent's Pipe Band and also Mr. Blackwood (piano accordion) were much appreciated, and also were the songs by Miss Mary Bald and Mr. J. Boyce, and the recitations by Miss Monica BelL Miss Eileen Clarke was an efficient accompanist.

| Miss Alice Gray donated a number of flower sprays, which were sold at I auction' by Mr. P. Kebgh and Mr. J. j£oyce, and brought a considerable sum of money. A rather unique addition to the I funds was made by little Pat and Peggy Wholey, two little girls, who had been (saving half-pennies for the mission

Sisters. They were able to hand in the sum of £6, all in half-pennies.

A wonderful array of groceries and stores was sent in, also a number of very welcome cash donations.

The Sisters expressed their gratitude for the wonderful response to the appeal. '■
