"NO OBSTACLES"
"The impression exists among milir tary-authorities that many employers have-put obstacles in the way of their employees attending territorial drills and camps," said Mr. Gainor Jackson •at last week's meet/ig of the Auckland" Chamber of Commerce (reports the "Auckland Star"). "This is not altogether supported by fact, as most employers' in Auckland give, the leave, without- deduction of wages. The defences of. New Zealand are in a par-lous-condition, and we must do something/ he said. Discussion followed advice from the Associated Chambers of Commerce that strong support had been given to the report of the executive on national defence. The executive had decided to adopt a suggestion that the chambers be asked to circularise their members, recommending that each member contribute as far as possible to the usefulness and success of .the present voluntary system of military training by notifying his employees that approval would be given to such employees joining the volunteer forces, and that they would .be given every facility -for attending drills and annual training camps. On the motion of Mr. A. G. Lunn, who confirmed Mr. Jackson's remarks, it was decided to circularise members, as suggested in the letter.
