TROTTING BREVITIES
Acceptances for the Manawatu Trotting Club's Labour Day Meeting close on Wednesday at 8 p.m. All Special, who is entered for the Auckland Trotting Club's Spring Meeting, has not raced for several years. At the Waikato Club's Autumn Meeting in 1930 All Special, trained and driven by G. T. Mitchell, won the Improvers' Handicap for trotters. Blondie was given two races at Addington last Thursday, and his second display was much better than the first. In each case he. was driven by R. Donald. Blondie, however^ apparently highly thought of by his connection^, does not appear to be the real rac.frhorse on anything he has shown in public. The Joe Goulding Handicap at Addington last week proved an easy victory for the American pacer Gallant Knight, who shot to the front two and a half furlongs from home and won decisively in 2miu 46sec for a mile and a quarter. Sea Gift gave an excellent exhibition of trotting to secure second money. Her effort among the pacers was appreciated by the crowd. Entered for the Auckland Trotting Meeting is Electric Bell, who has previously won at Epsom. The Gold Bell mare has won four races with, very little racing, and at her last start she was successful in the Spring Handicap
at Hutt Park in easy fashion from a good field. , „ •., , _ When raced at the recent Waikato Meeting Levity failed to go away correctly and swerved right across the track, this naturally ruining his chance. He was expected to go particularly well, and his display was very disappointing. He has taken no harm from the outing, and when next raced should not lack for condition.
Blair Athol is reported to be stepping out .'n his training work as if he will go a long way this season. He strolled over a mile and a quarter at Addington recently in '2min 51sec, after covering a good deal of extra ground, and he is benefiting by age. Blair Athol has the makings of a high-class horse provided he remains sound.
San Michele is not yet the finished article in trotting, although she has more speed than most trotters. Under pressure she is inclined to break, and in the Para Rubber Handicap at Addington on Thursday it was only the expert reinsmanship of J. Bryce, jun., that kept her steady enough to gain the stake. Bryce took advantage of the mistakes of others and allowed the mare to gain a substantial lead, after which she was allowed tomake her own steady pace. San Michele will do still better, but up to the present she is not a betting proposition. ' Four Australian pacers are engaged at the Oamaru Trotting Club's Meeting on Labour Day. They are New Derby, Evicus, Emilius Way, and New Ideal.
New Derby and Evicus are candidates for the New Zealand Trotting Cup and other events at Addington in November. Emilius Way will be suited by; the classes attached to the principal races at Oamaru, and New Ideal will measure strides with several reputable local novices in the Trial Handicap.
. Iraq appears to have thrown, off his troubles and is once again hitting out in his tasks as if he enjoyed them, says the "Star-Sun." He won several races on end'during the 1934-35 period, but slipped Badly last season; In thirteen starts he gained one first and one third. At one part of his career he was regarded as.having reached- his best, but he was subsequently found to be suffering from a growth in one of his fetlocks. A few months ago this was removed, and he has regained his health, and is exhibiting the vitality that won him many races.
