HIGH TEST WELL

NEW PLYMOUTH JOTTINGS

(Special from "Hurry On.")

NEW PLYMOUTH, October 19.

The tracks at New Plymouth were in good order for the training operations on Saturday morning, when most.of the horses with engagements at Trentham-and Waverley were seen in action. The gallops took place on the course, proper with the flags out about 30 feet. : ■ High Test, was not extended to cover seven furlongs in lmin 39sec. He moved evenly and finished strongly. He is in good order for. Waverley. Refresher proved too good for Mowgli over half a mile in 52£ sec. Refresher moved with all his old freedom and finished full of running. Mowgli, though beaten off, displayed improvement on his previous efforts. Windscreen, looking rather, on the big side, occupied 54 l-ssec for half a mile. She is to race at Waverley, but is not ready to show her best. _ Eagle's Eye moved nicely over half, a mile in 54 3-ssec, and was going comfortably at the finish. Meritor hit out freely over the same distance in 54isec. . - , ~' ' Lady Kyra finished about half a length in front of Calshot at the conclusion of six furlongs in ,Imm 20sec. She carried out her task in good style, but unfortunately struck herself, on the hock. This injury may necessitate her being eased in her work. Fersen was going easily alongside Brilliancy at the end of five furlongs in lmin Bsec. He appeared to revel in his task, but Brilliancy was hanging on solidly at the end. , The two-year-old Drathula was too good for Ringside over three furlongs in 41£ sec. Drathula possesses' a fine, style of galloping, and will be useful later on. ■ ,', Davistock led Aussie- Ra most of the way over a mile, but Aussie/Ra finished strongly to have his ■ head in front-at'the end. They ran the distance in lmin 52isee, the last half-mile in 56sec. Aussie Ra may need a race before being seen right at his best, but Davistock is a fit horse. ■_-■■■ ■_ :- The latest addition to the New Plymouth horses is the Iliad- four-year-old. Cyllaros, who has been leased by a patron of P. Farrell's.
