AN INDIAN APPOINTMENT
Mr. Alan R. Blakeley, A.M.1.E.E., formerly of Wellington, has been appointed assistant electrical engineer at the Indian Government Office, Lon : don, attached to the office of the High Commissioner for India in England. There were 150 applicants.for the position. My. Blakeley was born at Kaiapoi, but received his education at the Petohe West School and continued at the Wellington Technical College. At the. latter college he obtained the Callendar Scholarship. After serving his apprenticeship in 'Wellington he went to England to undergo a threeyear student course in the-works of the British Thomson Houston, Ltd., at Rugby. On the completion of this course Mr. Blakeley was given a permanent, position with the company. He passed the graduateship examinations of the Institute of Electric Engineers irT 1935 and in the same year was elected an associate member of the institute. Mr. Blakeley is the youngest son of Mrs. B. W, Blakeley, of Kelburn. •
