After a quiet day in which it was hoped violence had died down, Hindu and Moslem mobs clashed in the evfeuing, resulting in four deaths and necessitating the police firing. Troops are again patrolling the disturbed areas and 100 arrests were made. Four" of those injured died in hospital. The casualty roll is now 58 dead and 530 injured. The Governor, Lord Brabourne, has empowered the Magistrates .to ojder the lashing of hooligans convicted of participation in riots, and 60 have been sentenced to flogging in addition to three months' imprisonment.
