MT. CARMEL ACTIdN

(Received October 9, 10 a.m.)

JERUSALEM, October 8.

The negotiations between King Ibn Saud's Emissaries and the Arab High Committee have engendered hope that the Arabs will terminate the strike at the coming weekend. The firmness of the British forces has caused widespread recognition" that the time for political cajolery has passed..

The Arab High Committee, after receiving the final text of the proposed appeal by Arab rulers to end the strike and the campaign of violence, has decided to seek the district committees' opinions before publishing the appeal. " . . Strong British forces are engaging 200 rebels on Mount Carmel with trench mortars, rifles, and machineguns. The British, after spectacular operations, failed to locate the rebels. It is hot known whether there have been any casualties. -

According to the "Manchester Guardian's" Jerusalem correspondent, it is reliably reported that the Higher Arab Committee will issue an armistice proclamation, arising from the mediation of King Ibn. Saud of Arabia, within 24 hours (a London cable published yesterday stated). .King Ibn Saud approved the text, but Yasln el Hashimi, Premier of .Irak, suggested a modification, hence slight delay.: It is understood that the proclamation will appeal for an. armistice only, after ;which the Arabs will await' some . indication of Britain's "good intention" for a final settlement. * '
