AND RAIN PROBABLE
Special forecast for .Wellington:— North-westerly winds of gale or strong gale force, but decreasing somewhat tonight. Weather t changeable, with rain . which may be heavy at times. .
The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today, is for strong northerly to northwesterly winds reaching gale force at times and in places .the force of a strong gale. Winds - later in many places will be backing to the west or south-west. The weather will be unsettled and stormy with ■■ rain 'at times in most parts of the country, although only scattered in eastern districts. Thunder -is probable in places, and temperatures will be mild.
Anotheiv'and intense westerly depression, one of a series, is now crossing the Dominion, pressure remaining high over the northern part of the country. Consequently northwesterly or westerly winds have predominated, and these have been moderate to strong generally, gale force being reached in many places south of New Plymouth and Napier. .The weather has been mainly fair over the northern half of the North Island and in eastern districts, but elsewhere it has been unsettled. Rain has fallen in the western and southern districts of the South Island, with heavy falls in a few ,places. There were also some light and. scattered falls last night in TaranakLand along the east coast of the South Island. -
The weather in Auckland has continued fine with a light westerly wind. : " ,
Wellington had' dull and threatening weather, .yesterday, a strong and squally north-westerly wind frequently reaching gale force.
In Christchurch the weather has been dull with a strong north-westerly wind which reached the force of a strong gale early this morning. There was some lightning there about 10 p.m., and some showers at 4 a.m. The temperature yesterday afternoon rose to 74 degrees.
Dunedin had overcast weather yesterday with light rain at tinies during the day. In the night the rain was heavy, the total fall being one of 24 points. A northerly wind freshened yesterday afternoon, but at & a.m. today a light north-westerly was blowing, the weattler being cloudy.
