GROUND ENGINEERS
TRAINING LACKING
NEED IN. N.Z. AVIATION
(By Telegraph--Press Association.? NEW PLYMOUTH,, October' &
"While a great deal has been done in New Zealand to encourage aviation by the provision of aerodromes and .subsidising, the training of; pilots, one important factor has been overlooked, the training of ground engineers. Unless this matter is given immediate attention the progress of aviation in New Zealand will be seriously retarded," said Mr. .S. E.. Nielson, secretary, of the New Zealand Aero Club, today.
Mr. Nielson said..that all the training, in this direction at present was done by aero clubs at their own expense. As .'practically every engineer trained would leave the clubs either for service or for commercial aviation widespread opinion had grown that the training of youths as ground engineers should be . subsidised by . the Government. The Minister of Defence had already stated that he recognised the importance of this class of training, and ho doubt' he would be able to make, some provision.
Aero clubs "were at present making representations for some assistance in the training of youths to a standard where they, would be capable of doing any and all classes of repairs, and giving service to all types of. machines.
