A feature of the Foreign Exchange market this morning was the resumption of dealings in Italian lire, the rate being quoted at from 92 to 94, to th,e
on September 25 the closing rate was 64 3-8. Sterling on New York was 4.91 dollars to the £, and on Paris 105 francs to the £. The stock markets are quieter, but their tone is confident, the currency devaluations on the Continent having cleared the air. British Government Stocks are quieter following the announcement that underwriting is about to take place for the Manchester Corporation 3 per cent, loan of £5,000,000 at 99J, repayable 1958-63.
