REMOVING BARRIERS
NATIONS' GESTURES

RUGBY, October 7.
The progress of the movement for the reduction of trade barriers following realignment of currencies, inaugurated by the Franco-British-American declaration of September 26, was demonstrated again in today's proceedings of the Second Commission of the League (Assembly.
The Swiss delegate, M. Stucki, said that his Government had devalued principally to show its willingness to participate in the international gesture towards economic recovery, and announced that Switzerland would progressively reduce her tariffs. The Czechoslovak delegate, M. Veverka, said that his Government had taken up the study of the question of abolishing exchange ' control in order to secure its abolition as quickly as possible.
M. Van Lanschot (Netherlands) intimated that his country had abolished the quotas on leather, furniture, and linoleum, and that other quotas would be withdrawn as a step in the direction of wiping out hindrances to trade.
