BATTALION NOTES

WELLINGTON REGIMENT

This week the Ist Battalion, Wellington Kegiment, has been carrying out the second concentrated period of the year, to be followed by another weekend bivouac at Trentham. Advantage will be taken of the bivouac to carry out further training in night operations and on the Sunday a small tactical scheme will form the main part of the training.

The military ball held in Lower Hutt on September 30 proved most successful and reflected great credit on the committee responsible for the arrangements. From a financial point of view, the seriously-depleted funds of C Company should benefit materially, and the thanks of the company are extended to "those ladies and gentlemen who did so much to make the function a success. The Commanding Officer and staff paid a visit of inspection to C Company's recreational parade on September 19, together with LieutenantColonel Saunders, representing the Lower Hutt Association (Wellington Regiment). At the conclusion of the parade the visiting officers were entertained by the company at supper. The monthly meeting of the sergeants' mess was held in the Garrison Hall on October 1. An interesting lecture was given by Mr. Christie, the subject being "The Maori: His Weapons and Their Uses."
