FAIR AT V.M.C.A.
SUCCESSFUL EFFORT
The "Spring Fair" was well named by the good workers for the V.M.C.A. for it was not only the beautiful ilowers which emphasised the naming, but the brightness and pleasantness of the afternoon. The fair was organised by the ladies' auxiliary of the association, and was opened by the Hon. W. Nash, who was accompanied by Mrs. Nash.
The gymnasium was charmingly decorated with rainbow streamers, the stalls being equally bright and attractive looking, showing taste in the arranging, and generosity in the supplying of saleable goods. These were very well selected with a view to the approach of Christmas, and the sales made testified to the appreciation of the large gathering of interested people. On arrival Mr. and Mrs. Nash were received by members of the official party which included Mr. R. H. Nimmo (president of the V.M.C.A.) and Mrs. Nimmo; Mr. L. J. Greenberg (general secretary) and Mrs. Greerfberg (president of the ladies' auxiliary), Mrs. R. S. Maunder and Mrs. Millward (vicepresidents of the ladies' auxiliary), Mrs. W. H. Kersley (life president of the ladies' auxiliary), Mr. W. J. Mason (chairman of the finance committee of the V.M.C.A.), Mrs. H. Hannah (treasurer of the ladies' auxiliary), Mrs. D. L. Gibson (hon. secretary), and Messrs. W. Benzies, W. F. Ponder, and A. G. Ballinger (directors of the y.m.ca.). ■ ;
Mr. Greenberg welcomed all present and gave a brief resume of the activities of the ladies' auxiliary, referring specially to their work in connection with the seventieth birthday of the association. Mr. Nimmo also spoke, and expressed great appreciation of the work done by the ladies' auxiliary. It was, he added, an inspiration.
Pleasure at being privileged to open
the fair was expressed by Mr. Nash, who spoke in the most eulogistic terms of the V.M.C.A. and its wonderful influence on the youth of the country, and who gave much praise to the ladies' auxiliary for its successful activities and untiring work oh behalf of the association. He then declared the fair open and wished it' every success. Mrs.' Wilfred Andrews and Mr. Herbert F. Wood sang, Miss Iris Mason being the accompanist. Bouqets were presented 10 Mrs. Nash, Mrs. Greenberg, Mrs. Wilfred Andrews, and Miss Iris Mason by Bar-, bara Hall and Joan Maunder. Afternoon tea was served in the lounge, the little white-clothed tables being decorated with vases of vivid Iceland poppies and birch. An attractive programme was presented at the night session.
