ANNUAL MEETING

Between sixty and seventy members were present at last night's annual general meeting of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, over which Mr. D. A. Ewen presided. Moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, details of which have already been published, Mr. Ewen said that the openingof the National Art Gallery had been the Academy's objective for many years. Now that this had been accomplished, it was bound to lead to a fuller and more universal appreciation of art. The Initial ceremonies - had been followed by a wonderful wave of interest, and they could say with satisfaction that members ■of the Academy Council had played a very large part in organising and hanging the various exhibitions. Special thanks were dufe also to Mrs. Murray Fuller. : The report and balance-sheet wer« adopted without discussion. The election of officers resulted in Mr. D. A. Ewen being re-elected president There were two candidates for the one vice-presidential vacancy, Mr. E. W. Hunt being elected. The six vacancies on the council were'contested by thirteen members who had been nominated, and the following^ were elected: Mrs. Murray > Fuller, Mr. ' D; Carbery, Mr. Roland Hipkins, Mr. G. G. G. A motion was carried expressing appreciation of the services of Mr.'J. M. Ellis, especially in securing the loan of Australian pictures.
