FAMILIES IN THE COUNTRY
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—There is a great deal of talk going on at the moment of bringing families and tradesmen put from the Old Country, Why think of doing such a thing with our regiment of unemployed? My husband is a tradesman, what about giving him a job? We have eight children, seven of them under 16 years of age, and we get the munificent sum of £2 17s one week and £3 6s 6d the following week, and so' on alternately. We pay a huge rent out of. that. Why not give us a show before bringing other families out here? Our children are all strong and healthy; five boys are a good asset to any country, but what encouragement do we get? Our money is a mere existence, but there are others just as badly off, so we grin and bear it.—l am, etc.,
MOTHER OF EIGHT.
