Lady found her way to Mr. P. Miller's -Kia-OraStud, New South Wales, Where she'first .left-Baropna, a winner . of several- races, and then Young Crusader. . ' ' ; : Young Crusader incidentally is closely related to Peter Pan.: Portland Lass, his grandam, was half-sister to Waitemata, who is second dam of Alwina, the .dam of Peter Pan.. Waitemata was another importation to New Zealand from Victoria, and her progeny here included Ponrua (G.N. Champagne Stakes and N.I. Challenge Stakes), Sir Frisco, arid: Formaliter (grandam of Peter Pan). Further back in the line the family produced; notable horses in Melos (A.J.C. Derby and St. Leger), Wallace (V.R.C. Derby and Sydney Cup), Uncle Sam (Caulfield Cup), Haidee (Brisbane Cup), The Broker (V.R.C. Sires' Produce Stakes), and many others of less note only in degree. '.„■',' At the 1934 yearling sales in Sydney Young Crusader was secured for g 190 guineas. He proved a promising juvenile, though he won only one race in that term. Last season he was twice successful, winning the Members' Handicap, for three-year-olds, li miles, at the A.J.C. Spring Meeting and the Winter Plate, 1 mile and 5 furlongs, at the A.J.C. King's Birthday Meeting. He missed a place in the A.J.C. Derby, but his subsequent handicap. form made him look a likely sort of horse for a race such as the Metropolitan or Caulfield Cup. Previously this season he had not been greatly in the ?:news till a week ago, when one morning hedid the best gallop over seven furlongs at Randwick; but he was always quoted in. the betting lists as /one of the most dangerous horses among the lightweights in the Metropolitan. He is in the Melbourne Cup with 7.4, but he will undoubtedly have a penalty on top of that for his latest success.
