SAMPLES FROM GREAT BARRIER
Mr. E. J. Woolf, Christchurch, secretary Chain of Mines, Ltd., forwards a report dated October 1, from the company's manager, and reading as follows:—During my* recent visit to the Great Barrier,- I prospected the Sunbeam Lode both east and west of the existing levels and have-now. completed the assaying 'of the samples. No. 1 sample is from a point 600 feet west, the lode at this point is 24 inches wide, value £2 12s 4d per ton; this is an important find and by driving No. 2 level west a large tonnage of ore can be opened up water free under this location. No. 2 sample 20 feet east, width 36 inches, value £1 18s 7d per ton.- No. 3 sample 40 feet east, width 48 inches, value £5 4s 6d per ton. No. 4 sample 60 feet east, width 60 .inches, value £8 18s 2d pec ton. No. 5 sample 80 feet east, width 60 inches, value £7 4s lOd per ton. 4. No. 6 sample back of slopes over No. 1 level, width 30 "inches, value £2 Is 5d per ton: No. .7 sample going east, width 30 inches, value £12 10s 6d per ton. No. 8 sample slope east, width 30 inches, value £12 9s 4d per ton. Without exception, there is not a face in the Sunbeam' Mine which does not contain pay ore, a very great deal of it being high grade, the faces going east - especially so. Regarding the lode on its western strike the most western exposures were sampled and assayed. Sample 9, value £3 0s 9d per ton; sample 10, £2 0s 5d per ton; sample 11, £2 10s lid per ton; sample 12, £6 12s per ton; sample 13, £6 12s per ton; sample 14, £5 14s per ton, all with good sloping widths. BIG RIVER. Big River Gold Mines reports gold returns for month of September, 1936, as follows:—Battery department, 220 tons crushed for 1720z 7dwt of melted •gold; cyanide department, 270z 2dwt of bullion recovered; estimated value, £1290. In addition, 3 tons lOcwt of concentrates ■■ were saved valued at £75. ' In estimating'the above values gold has been, taken.at 140s per fine oz. . GOLD RETURNS.
