SCHOOLS' FESTIVAL
The Town Hall'next Wednesday and Thursday evenings will be the scene of a new departure on the part of the primary schools' of the city when a festival will be staged for the first time. The various schools are combininp in an effort to show the parents and general public of Wellington what is being done on the cultural side to widen the scope of the education given the children. Most people think of the primary schools in terms of the proficiency certificate; at the annual Winter Show their handwork is put on exhibition. Now, for the first time in the history of this city, the children are to place before the public their attainments in their aesthetic studies. According to the enthusiasm of members of the staff some schools specialise in choral singins, some in verse speaking, some in folk dancing, while others specialise in dramatic work. While the object of these two concerts is; mainly to show the citizens of Wellington what is being done in these regards, as an instance of juvenile entertaining the two nights' programmes will be outstanding. Each evening's programme will be entirely different, for over twenty schools are participating. There are no individual items and it is .of interest to note that each evening's performance uses over 400 .performers. Any profits will be donated to the Otaki Children's Health Camp and it is to be hoped that capacity houses will greet the youthful performers. Prices have been kept low in order that everyone may attend.
