SHIP'S BUTCHER

LOST OVERBOARD

At 8 a.m. yesterday, when the New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Rotorua was passing Castlepoint on her way from Auckland to Wellington, the ship's butcher, G. Cook, was reported missing. A thorough search of the vessel failed to find ariy trace of the missing man, and at 8.25 a.m. the master, Captain C. B. Lamb, put the :;hip-about, and for two hours slowly liteamed back over her-course in search of Cook. The search having proved unsuccessful, the Rotorua turned again :cor Wellington, arriving here shortly lifter 6 p.m. yesterday. Only a moderate sea was running at the time when Cook was reported missing. It is iitated that his manner had been somewhat strange for some days past.
