PROGRAMMES FOR THE WEEK
Following are brief details of the programmes for New Zealand from the 8.8.C. Empire Short-wave Station for the week commencing tomorrow. The programmes commence daily at 545 p.m., the wave-length being: GSD, 25.53 metres; GSB, 31,55 metres. Friday.—Tomorrow's programme will be opened by the 8.8.C. Empire Orchestra, with Lauri Kennedy, Australian cellist, as soloist. At 6.46, P. Thurston Holland will present No. 2 of "Gypsy Music." At 7.31 "A Syncopated Serenade" will be broadcast. Saturday.—Fred Hartley and his Novelty Quintet will open Saturday's programme with popular musical selections. At 6.26, "Game, Set, and Match a review of the summer sporting events—will be broadcast. A folk-song recital by Winifred Davis (mezzosoprano) is scheduled for 6.54. At 7.10 Reginald Arkell will present a further episode in the series "In England Now. Sunday—Sunday's religious service will be broadcast from St. Mary's Lowe House St. Helen's (Roman Catholic). This will be followed by a recital by Samuel Kutcher (violin). At 6.56 a recital of classical songs will be broadcast by Ethel Ewins (Australian contralto) and Victor Harding (Australian bass-baritone). Monday.—Monday's programme will be opened by the 8.8.C. Empire Orchestra with popular music and selections. This will be followed, at 6.30, by a special fishing industry programme. At 7.10 Janet Powell (contralto) may be heard in a recital ot modern vocal compositions. Tuesday.—A Scots concert will open Tuesday's programme, followed at 6.20 by a talk. At 6.35 there will be a pianoforte interlude by Dorothy Grimstead A sea voyage in sound, under the title "The Round Trip" is scheduled for 6.45.' Wednesday. — Wednesdays programme will be opened with a programme of chamber music by the Isolde Menges String Quartet. At 6.30 H. V. Hodson will speak on "Imperial Affairs," and this will be followed at 6 45 by a selection of new dance tunes. At 6.56 Empire Magazine No. 7 will be broadcast.
Thursday.—The 8.8.C. Dance Orchestra will open Thursday's programme with modern dance music. At 6.15 "Concert in Camera," a musical burlesque, will be presented. This feature gives a picture of one side of life in London during the year 1897. A talk at 6.50 and a novelty instrumental recital at 7.5 are the other features on Thursday's programme. A news session is broadcast at 7.25 each evening, the stations closing down at 7.45.
