SAFETY COUNCIL

COMMITTEES APPOINTED

After considering various matters in committee yesterday afternoon the New Zealand Road Safety Council set up a number of sub-committees to investigate road transport problems, and adjourned while the committees gather evidence!

The following are the committees:—

Child Education and Propaganda.— Dr. J. W. Mcllwraith and Mr. G. R. Ashbridge.

Adult Education and Propaganda.— Messrs. W. A. O'Callaghan, J. S. Hawkes, F. C. Spratt, M. F. Luckie, and J. F. Cousins.

Traffic Laws.—Messrs. J. Wood, Chief Engineer, Public Works Department, C. J. Talbot, M. F. Luckie, G. Laurenson, and representatives of motor unions.

Motor Accident Statistics. —Messrs, J. H. Jarram, Cousins, and Dr. MeII wraith.

Lighting (cars and roads) .—Messrs. Laurenson, Luckie, A. Main, C. J. Halph, and A. W. Keys. Improvement of Road Conditions.— Messrs. Wood, Talbot, O'Callaghan, Jerram, and Laurenson. It' was agreed that the important question of the effect of alcohol on road accidents should be considered by the whole council, and if evidence is available on the question the Transport Department will arrange for the council to hear witnesses.
