DOMINION-BRED WINNER

The racing season opened in Western Australia a fortnight ago with the Goldfields circuit at Kalgoorlie. On the second day one of the winners was the New Zealand-bred Dainty Verse, who scored narrowly but gamely in the Spring Handicap, 1J miles. The stake was £120.

Dainty Verse is a four-year-old chestnut mare by Iliad from the Absurd— Valeric mare Isa, a close relative of Reremoana, Lady Cavendish, Lady Bentinck (dam of Golden Promise), etc., and she is owned by Mr, F. P. Foley, on whose behalf she was secured at the Trentham sales 'for only 35 guineas. She is trained by her owner, and has previously shown winning ability in the State.
