ORIEL BLEEDS BADLY
(Special from 'Ximltetl.") HAWERA, September 14. Heavy rains have kept the Hawera tracks soft and precluded any fast work being performed during the past few days. T. Fryer takes Advance Plane, Kia Ora, and Callamost to Foxton. The trio have been kept at steady exercise since racing at New Plymouth. Corowa has improved a lot in appearance and is beginning to shape up in view of his engagements at Marton and Otaki. The hurdler Sceptic, who schooled so promisingly before the Combined Hunt Clubs' fixture, ran well until his condition gave out, and he should be a much more solid proposition the next time up, which will be at the Waverley Meeting. J. Fryer's hurdler Oriel, who gave a dashing display over the schooling hurdles before leaving for Wanganui, bled badly in the race and returned home between the days. He is not likely to be further persevered with. Indiscretion was sore after racing on the first day at New Plymouth and was not produced on the second day on that account. She is on the easy list at present and may not be raced again until next season. . Glenthawn will not be required to race until the Waverley Meeting. Star View and Lucrece have been returned to their owners. J. Brown's apprentice G. Cole, who received a severe kick necessitating treatment at the hospital, is making satisfactory progress towards recovery.
