MR. R. N. WALL

By the death of Mr. Raymond N. Wall, which occurred suddenly at his home in Lower Hutt yesterday, horticultural activities in Wellington and the Hutt Valley lost one of their most valued supporters. His death came as a greater shock to his wide circle of friends because of its unexpectedness, as he appeared to be in the best of health until yesterday morning.. He Was 54 years of age.. Horticulture was the principal interest in Mr. Wall's life. For twelve years as a young man he was in the employ of F. Cooper, Ltd., seed merchants, and in the nursery and in the retail department he gained his extensive knowledge at every phase of the business. About ten years ago, when the firm decided to continue only its wholesale business, the retail shop was taken over by Mr. Wall. He was occupied with that business in his own name until the time of his death.

The growing of flowers s was more than -a business with Mr. Wall; it was a hobby, too. He specialised particularly in delphiniums and gladioli, and for years was prominent in the activities of the Hutt Valley Horticultural Society, in which he was an exhibitor, but more often a judge. In fact, his name appears on the list of judges who are to officiate at. the society's show tomorrow. ' In his earlier days the-late Mr. Wall was a keen cricketer, on both the active and administrative sides. He played for the Cooper Cricket Club and took a part in the foundation of the Mercantile Cricket League, on the executive of which he served for a time. . . , Although he was of a quiet and unassuming disposition, the late Mr. Wall made a large number of friends. He leaves a widow, three sons, and three daughters.
