PICTURE "ST. JOAN"
INTERFERENCE ALLEGED
(Received September 15, 2 p.m.) NEW YORK, Sept. 14. Charges of interference by th» "Catholic Action," proposed in connection with a movie production of "St. Joan," and made by Mr. Bernard Shay/ in a four-column letter to the editor of the "New York Times," are denied by the National League of Decency and the Motion Picture Producers' and Distributors' Corporation, as well as by; various heads of the Catholic Church; and movie censorship bodies. The letter, which is characteristically Shavian, says: "I have everything to.fear from meddling amateur, busybodies, and the 'Catholic Action' turns out to be a body of such conceited busy-bodies." The letter further stresses that the play in the past has been regarded by the Church in a friendly manner, and concludes with a vigorous attack, on the censorship generally. . ~•. ■ ; The organisations, in denying interference, expressed bewilderment and insisted that they knew nothing of the matter. ....
