CHAPLAINS' CONFERENCE
Among the passengers'who Arrived by the -Marama today vvas the Rev. B. J, Williams, chaplain at the. Missions [ to. Seamen Institute, Wellington, who has. been on a visit to Melbourne and; Sydney. While in Melbourne he attended a conference of missions to seamen chaplains, but the primary pur-; pose of his visit to Australia was in| connection,with his throat, which has' been in a'relaxed condition for about fourteen, weeks., .His., voice showed some improvement in Sydney, but the improvement was only temporary, and! his throat is still affected., ■ . , ■■■. ' For deserting the M.V. Rangitata, a scullion; Montague' Wilfred Madden, aged 21, was corivifcted and discharged on payment of costs by Mr. W, F. Stilwell. S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today. Sub-Inspector Roach, who prosecuted, said that the shipping company did not ask for any penalty. The defendant had deserted with two others. Madden was now unemployed.
